Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 20, 2026
GasTab helps drivers record, review, and understand driving trips, fuel usage, vehicle activity, and driving behavior. By default, trips stay on your iPhone. This Privacy Policy explains what information GasTab collects in each mode, how it is used, and how you can control it.
Information We Collect
If you do not turn on Upload trips in the app, GasTab does not send your trip routes, maps, or driving scores to our server. Trips you record stay on your iPhone. We may collect profile or contact information only if you submit the Intake form, email us, or sign in on the web dashboard. Without upload or intake, we may still receive minimal usage events described under Usage events (app) below. We may collect:
- Email address
- Name or alias
- Vehicle name
- Vehicle model
- iPhone specs
- Vehicle specs
- Feedback notes you provide (for example on the Intake Survey or your profile)
Information We Collect if you allow trip uploads
If you turn on Upload trips in GasTab Settings (Live → gear), GasTab will also collect and store on our server:
- Driver name or alias and vehicle name
- Trip start and end times
- Trip duration, distance, speed, MPG, fuel usage, fuel cost, RPM, and GasTab score
- Hard acceleration and hard braking counts
- GPS route points and trip start/end locations
- Reverse-geocoded start and end addresses
- Notes you add to trips
- GasTab Settings in the app (gas price, region/ZIP code, and access token)
- Upload/sync status for trips
GasTab will use vehicle data from an OBD device to calculate trip metrics on your iPhone. That data is included in trip uploads when Upload trips is on.
How We Use Information
GasTab uses the information above to communicate about invitations, account setup, and support.
If you allow trip uploads, GasTab also uses trip information to:
- Record and display your trips on the web dashboard
- Calculate fuel usage, cost, MPG, and driving scores
- Show route maps and trip details
- Group trips by driver and vehicle
- Sync trip data to the GasTab server
- Restore trip data from the GasTab server
- Improve reliability of trip recording and uploads
Location Data
GasTab uses location data on your iPhone to record trip routes and identify trip start and end locations. Location data is used while a trip is in progress. When you tap Start on Live, GasTab may use background location to keep the route continuous until you tap Stop or the trip ends.
Location data stays on your device unless you turn on Upload trips, in which case route data may be uploaded with your trips. Location data is not sold.
Usage events (app)
GasTab may send minimal usage signals from the iPhone app to help improve reliability. These events do not include GPS routes, addresses, trip maps, driving scores, fuel purchases, or other trip details unless you separately turn on Upload trips.
Usage events may include:
- App opens
- App and iOS version, and device model
- OBD connection success or cancellation
- Whether a trip was started or completed (duration and distance reported in broad buckets only)
GasTab does not sell this information. It is used to understand whether users can connect an OBD adapter and complete drives.
Optional in-app tips
The app may show optional tips about features such as web sync after you have recorded several trips. You can dismiss these prompts. Choosing Don’t ask again stops further upload prompts in the app.
Data Sharing
GasTab does not sell your personal information.
Trip data may be uploaded to the GasTab server only if you turn on Upload trips in the app or use server restore features. Access to server data is controlled by your GasTab access token or login credentials.
Apple may collect crash logs and diagnostics according to Apple’s own policies when you use the App Store version of the app.
Data Storage
GasTab stores trip data locally on your device. If you turn on Upload trips in GasTab Settings (Live → gear), trip data will also be stored on the GasTab server. If Upload trips is off, we do not receive your trip data — only the profile and intake information listed above, plus the minimal usage events described under Usage events (app).
You are responsible for protecting your device, access token, and login credentials.
Data Deletion
You can delete trips from within the app or on your web dashboard. You may also delete local app data by deleting the app from your device.
If your trip data has been uploaded to the GasTab server and you want it removed from the server, contact scott@getcarprint.com.
Children's Privacy
GasTab is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Security
GasTab uses reasonable measures to protect data, but no app, device, or server can guarantee complete security. Keep your device, Apple ID, and GasTab credentials secure.
Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Updates will be reflected by changing the effective date above.
Compatibility & technology
GasTab uses OBD2 BLE adapters and iPhone location during active trips. New users should start with Getting started.
